Goldplatedrock, i agree with you. This is not an over reaction. Steve Jobs was meticulous with design and usability - and i am sure he would NOT have accepted the headphone jack going to the bottom.

He was known to scrap designs 6 weeks before the first iphone was about to hit the market. Think of all the car holders and desk docking stations that will not be able to be used when wanting to keep the headphones connected. Plus upside down in your pocket? I also wonder how the new lightining connector will hold up the whole phone with accessories like speakers - it will not be able to hold it up.
