You are walking right next to a seven lane highway so cannot see anything to the west. High safety fences can also obstruct views. The video featured on this page was taken from the Harbour Bridge walk, so you can see the views are still worthwhile. If you only have a short time, then walking the 10 minutes or so to the first pylon home to the Pylon Lookout — details below will provide enough views of the harbour and Opera House to satisfy.
But if you have time, it's worth walking the whole way across. By walking over the Harbour Bridge, not only can you say you've done it, but you'll also end up at Milsons Point — a place popular with locals with unique views of the bridge and Opera House. Milsons Point is on the northern side of the bridge. If you'd like to start your walk here, read instructions on the Cahill Walk , which is the proper name of the Sydney Harbour Bridge Walk.

Santa at the Summit This festive season, meet Santa atop the iconic Harbour Bridge and pose for a one-of-a-kind Aussie Christmas photo. The walkway is fenced on both sides but you can put your camera or phone through the gaps and still get great pictures. All the pictures in this post are taken on the walk. The walk across the bridge only takes around 20 minutes and offers fantastic views of the Opera House, Circular Quay, Fort Denison, Kirribillii and of course a lot of the wider harbour.
I also find watching the ferries pretty mesmerising from up here, and despite the fact this was part of my regular commute for years, I still absolutely love it! There are stairs to the top and you can get a good view of people climbing up the Harbour Bridge. The latter part of the walk across the Harbour Bridge is not quite so spectacular as the first part, but I always enjoy having a little peek at all the amazing roof top gardens the houses along this stretch have!
